I spent two weeks in Paris some time ago. One week working, one week passing time. I remember two things clear as day . One meeting the amazing French Painter Eric Scala. The other getting a vivid vision of a woman, that I strived to paint. SoI I spent a number of days locked in my hotel room creating her. Aptly titled Spirit of Paris.
A re-working from the ground up of an favorite image of mine. Done for and on sale at the Last Rites Gallery from DEC 5 th NY. This turned into a monster of an image, A0 300dpi. I wanted , as most of my images are , to show the scale of the image. My images are meant to be viewed A0 and above, you loose so much detail and subtle imagery online. This image is the largest I have ever done, working for hours in tiny squares of detail at a time as using Smart Objects in Photoshop.

I imagine these creatures flying past, encompassing the sky with snippets of surreal imagery . The onlookers below rarely understanding the complexity of the craft before them. Beautiful destruction.

Hope you enjoy

THE ORIGINAL MANDALA

When staring into a Mandala something triggered , my visual eye pulled back from the small 10 x 10 piece of paper. The swirling centre remained by the surrounding was more organic, a mixture of flesh and nature. Solid yet lucid. This is an illustration or representation of an original Mandala. A spirit whose given purpose is that to stir the imagination, to trigger an inner journey with its very presence.

For better or for worse, intentionally or unintentionally the journey would be an ancient journey. To the core of the Otherworld perhaps or however your mind interprets such places.

KRONOS : SUSPENDED FOR HIM

As my ButterflySoldier project is near complete I thought it would an idea to re-submit this old image with more info on its meaning and creation. Its had a little re-working here and there.

I spent two days and nights sat in a field midsummer for a little gathering called the Wessex Gathering, about 4 years ago.. My mind was awash with a fascination in other worlds, other forms of consciousness, other realities, theories, fantasies and wonder. The Wessex gathering is a pagan gathering, it's basically a large field, people from all over come and pitch their tents in a circle and spend two days and nights attending workshops, sharing their knowledge, singing, dancing, generally not too dissimilar to the many biker gigs that I've attended over the years all be it without the smell of petrol, burnt nitro, beer and sun cracked leather. I sat in the shadows and listened, I listened to followers of Voodoo, pagans, eclectics, and I listened to ancient tales from bards and folk singers. I got allot from that weekend, on the last night as it poured with rain I sat amongst the warming, friendly folk and doodled in my sketchpad as the final talks and workshops continued. I couldn't get out of my head the name, Kronos; I jotted down some as usual unrecognizable scribbles and the word Kronos. . Over and over it swirled and squished about in my brain…. later I learned of Cernunnos the horned god, worshiped by the Iron Age Celts all across Europe. I learnt in Greek mythology Cronus was son of Uranus and Gaia and the youngest of the twelve Titans. But at the time I knew nothing of either. I returned home and subsequently created the Kronos image by not thinking too much about what I was about to create, simply let go of all preconceptions and connect your mind to the page and just see what flows out. . Still one of my favorite images and always reminds me of that rainy weekend in Wessex
This a slight re-working of an older image called The Chase. The original used a few 3d skeletons in the foreground, which is why it ended up more in the 3d gallery I believe. I removed them and worked into the image more,so I feel it belongs in the 2d gallery, more so now.

Extended the side for a greater feel of scale. Originally using Matt painting techniques with the texture detail elements, then painting all the color effects, lights and shadow elements in later. Overlaying more details and paint effects as I see fit.

This was done for a good friend of mine who runs his own tattoo studio called TUFUGA ZOO and does all my tattoos. The brief was to create an image of him on a thrown of skulls and bones with the text ‘’on the eighth day God created …. Me ‘’ along the top. It’s a 7 foot by 4 foot banner to be shown at conventions and shows across the Uk.

It took approx 8 hours from start to finish, I was under pressure to finish as I had very little spare time to work on commissions outside my main projects. Despite the time pressure I liked the end result and managed to have allot of fun adding all those skulls and bones. Done purely in Photoshop.
For the last in this current series I was contemplating finnishing on a bang, like a movie, finnishing with a explosion, a battle ect. However I never set out to creat a self contained story only show climpses of a possible world. So I felt an 'end' image wasnt appropriets, instead I've opted for another glimpse, this time we look to the skies...The seeds of
these flying machines cary not the destructive capabilities of old but new life....the procreators

I stick my joy in the buildings in the homes
The spawn spreads among them, like rust it corrodes
They swim with death, my children of sin
My children to be, the metal flex they will see
Offspring's now kill, grow stronger within
They make me proud they kill just for me
I want the last image of that series to be something special and have endless ideas but non of them speak to me yet. This image has been dying to get out for a long long
Number 5 of the concept DOGS OF WAR series, the darker elements of the machine/flesh wars.

The rest of the series had been very open, open spaces, essence of speed ect. I wanted to take this one indoors, what's happening behind closed doors with the darker elements of this world.
I'd like critique on the lighting and tone please. Created the main model in poser and rendered out the basic untextured lite model in 2d, then worked on it in photoshop, adding layers of detail, tone, colour, depth using the poser image as template reference only. Background sky painted, foreground detail mainpulation photo imagery.
From concept to completion, 2 hours. Aiming for a very traditional image/composition.
